Progress and Outcomes of the Research Project
2006
November: Visiting of the research institutions, including OCS, for selecting collaborating institution in Syria (and the Arab countries).
November – December: Visiting of Dr. Samir ALTAQI, General Coordinator at OCS to Japan.
2007
February – March: Negotiations with OCS in Damascus, for establishing cooperative framework.
April – May: Launched the preparation for the National Poll in Syria in collaboration with OCS.
July: Agreed with OCIS on conduct of “National Survey in Syrian Arab Republic (July 2007 – February 2008)”.
The target and methods of the Survey are the following:
☆National survey is to be conducted in the Syrian Arab Republic.
☆1,000 individuals, aged between 18 and 65, are to be targeted.
☆Sampling is based on Central Bureau of Statistic (CBS), General Census of Population,
  Housing and Establishment 2006 (al-Ta‘dād al-‘Ām li-l-Sukkān wa al-Masākin wa
  al-Mansha’āt li-‘Ām 2006).
☆1,000 individuals, aged between 18 and 65, are to be targeted.
☆Stratified random sampling method (based on the proportional allocation), representative  of the following strata: a) Governorate, b) Region (urban/rural), c) Gender, d) Age,
  e) Educational level, f) Religion, g) Socio-economic level
☆Questionnaire (Arabic version)

July – September: Preparation of the poll in Damascus (sampling, running a pre-text, translation of questionnaire into Arabic, revision of the questionnaire, etc.)
October: Distributed and collected the questionnaire in the whole Syria.
October – January, 2006 (IAP): Data entry and report writing.
2008
February (IAP): Publication of the resport on “National Survey in Syrian Arab Republic (July 2007 – February 2008)”
